Iran called for effective assistance to countries in combating human trafficking



According to IRNA, Dr. Majid Takht Ravanchi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in New York on Tuesday, said at a high-level session of the UN General Assembly entitled “Evaluation of the Global Action Plan against Human Trafficking:” To address the challenges of implementing the action plan to combat human trafficking and find solutions to combat them will be useful.

The highest diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United Nations, stating that human trafficking is undoubtedly one of the most heinous crimes, said: “The United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the annex to provide a collective response to this threat Its members have sought to create a coherent transboundary regulatory environment. As one of the first signatories of this convention, the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken the necessary measures to implement the provisions of the said convention and its annexes with the aim of combating human trafficking.

Takht-e Ravanchi added: “In this regard, the Islamic Consultative Assembly in 1397 ratified the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its final review is underway by the Expediency Council.”

He added: “At the national level, there are numerous laws and legal instruments and regulations for the investigation and prosecution of cases related to human trafficking.” In order to complete the legal measures taken, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has submitted a draft bill to amend the Law on Combating Human Trafficking, which is related to the year 1383, to the Islamic Consultative Assembly for approval.

The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations stated: The draft bill focuses on defining human trafficking, including all its essential elements, as a heinous crime, taking into account its aggravating conditions, such as the trafficking of women and children. Needless to say, such an update to national law will ultimately strengthen international cooperation on this issue.

Takht-e Ravanchi stated: The National Commission for Combating Human Trafficking has been established in the form of a series of executive and monitoring measures by the Ministry of Interior in order to implement policies, strategies and programs related to human trafficking along with monitoring the mentioned measures. .

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations said: “At the forefront of all national actions, our law enforcement personnel, despite the lack of access to the necessary tools and resources due to the oppressive US sanctions, as well as the lack of required international support.” They bravely fight organized criminal groups.

Takht-e Ravanchi stressed: “We reaffirm our commitment to the fight against human trafficking and recognize the role of the United Nations, in particular the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in this regard.”

He added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the international community to provide appropriate, accessible and effective technical assistance to countries in order to effectively combat this crime.”
