Iran is on the verge of exporting cars to Russia
According to the International Economy Group of Fars News Agency, Omid Qalibaf, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, said in an interview with Rianavosti news agency that Iran Khodro and Saipa, the two largest Iranian car manufacturers, are receiving the necessary permits to export cars to this country in the future.
Explaining that Sapia has signed an agreement with a Belarusian company to supply 45,000 Shaheen and Quick cars, he said: “These cars will be delivered to Russia.”
However, Qalibaf did not specify whether Saipa will ship the cars directly to Russia or whether they will be delivered through Belarus. He explained that due to Western sanctions, this issue needs to be clarified.
This Iranian official added: “Iran Khodro has sent one of its cars to Russia as a sample to get a license, and after that it will contact private companies in Russia to sign contracts.”
Tehran and Moscow signed a memorandum of understanding last November for the export of Iranian cars to Russia worth 300 million dollars. The two countries also reviewed the conditions of joint car production.
After the exit of European, American and Japanese brands, Middle East car manufacturers are eyeing the Russian market.
