Iran’s position in determining gas prices

Following the 4th of Esfand note of Arman Melli newspaper written by Hamid Reza Salehi, Deputy Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Iran Chamber, we read: The issue of gas and energy exchanges has been important and influential in the past, for example, the Russian gas pipeline to Germany is one of the central issues in the recent Ukraine conflict, and of course energy has played an important role in the world and Iran as a country where this God-given wealth Can use energy as a tool of diplomacy in its relations. Iran has a strategic position due to the situation in the region and the fact that it is located between the east and the west of the world. Also, in terms of region and geographical location, a country has four seasons and usually has a lot of domestic energy consumption, which must be managed.

Iran is connected to countries such as Russia from the north and to the tropical countries of the Persian Gulf from the south, and can play an important and effective role as an energy hub in the region. Gas countries in the region, such as Turkmenistan and Russia, are next to Iran. Qatar, which is our strategic partner in South Pars, is also present at the summit, and in this regard, Iran can play a pivotal role. We can use this opportunity in this meeting in the future to strengthen and develop our gas fields and invest in the capacities we have ahead.

Given the opening of the Vienna talks, this is a good opportunity to develop our fields, and this could put us at a point where we can be one of the main players in the region in the future and play an influential role in determining gas prices in the region and the world. Make up for the backwardness imposed in the past. We have to admit that Russia is a strong player in the region that has a high demand among the world’s customers. Bringing this country to this meeting and giving the market to others and retreating from its own market requires careful planning by Iran to increase Iran’s share in world gas export relations. We must reform our energy consumption market inside the country and improve the production and consumption infrastructure in the country in such a way that we do not face a shortage of gas inside the country, even though we are the second largest gas company in the world.

Our total exports to a country like Iraq are at most about 50 million cubic meters, and this shows its importance in a situation where we do not need that gas, and it will show our share in this summit as an actor, because they are production statistics. And they have our consumption and exports, and all these are components that show Iran’s position in the field of gas exchanges. In these types of meetings, we can get good points with the interactions we have with our partners in the region. Energy diplomacy is intertwined with our other diplomacies. Our strength is that we have huge potential for gas reserves in the world and we are on the way to opening up to the world. When the world sees that Iran is talking to the world, it means that Iran has a huge potential in the field of various diplomacies, including energy, we just have to have the right plan. These summits could become a clear investment for Iran.
