Iraqi Foreign Minister talks with US Special Representative for Iran – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news



According to the Mehr news agency, quoting واع، «فؤاد Iraqi Foreign Minister Hussein met with US Special Representative for Iran Robert Mali.

The meeting is said to have taken place on Monday in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, during which political and security developments in the region, as well as the reality of Iran-US relations and some bilateral issues were discussed.

During the meeting, the Iraqi Foreign Minister also stressed the need to increase stability, use opportunities and coordination mechanisms, and said that Iraq is taking steps to reduce tensions, because reducing tensions is in the interests of all parties and contributes to security and peace in the region. And Iraq’s neighbors will be affected.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister also referred to his country’s parliamentary elections and said in this regard: “These elections reflected the demands of the people and showed the commitment of the nationalist forces to succeed in the election process.”

The Iraqi Foreign Minister’s remarks on the elections in his country came as a wave of protests followed the announcement of the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections, which were held across the country on Sunday, October 10, 2021. The Iraqi High Electoral Commission was forced to comply with protesters’ demands for a manual vote count.

However, the US envoy also praised “Iraq’s important role in the region, its efforts to connect the countries in the region to resolve differences through dialogue and peaceful means,” and called for Iraq to continue its active role in the region.
