Iraqi parliament sessions were suspended until further notice

According to the report of Fars International News Agency, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohammad Al-Halbousi, stressed that this country is facing a sensitive and difficult situation.

By issuing a statement, Al-Halboosi called for “subduing anger and taking patience and fulfilling national responsibility honestly” and said that differences of opinion between different parties are normal, but dialogue is the solution to this problem.

While inviting all political parties in Iraq to consider the national interests, he announced that he has suspended the parliamentary sessions until further notice.

Request from the Prime Minister

The official Iraqi news agency (WAA) quoted Al-Habousi’s statement and reported that the commander-in-chief of the armed forces must take the necessary measures to protect the institutions and support the demonstrators.

Pointing out that the protesters should maintain the peacefulness of the demonstrations, he asked all political parties to hold an “urgent national meeting” and prioritize national interests over party and group interests.

Seyyed Ammar Al-Hakim, the leader of Iraq’s national wisdom movement, in response to the unrest of the Sadr movement’s supporters, emphasized that the situation in Iraq requires the rule of the language of reason, logic and dialogue.

Following the intensification of unrest in Baghdad due to street protests by supporters of the Sadr movement, a number of protesters entered the Iraqi Parliament building for the second time in the past week.

The political parties in Iraq were waiting for the parliament session to start the new political process today, but Sadr’s movement again, in an illegal action, invited its supporters to demonstrations and the atmosphere in Baghdad was tense and chaotic. Last Wednesday, these pro-Sadr protesters attacked the parliament building and damaged public property.

In continuation of disruption in the political process of Iraq, the Sadr Movement has gathered its supporters around the Tahrir Square and in front of the entrance to the “Green Zone” of Baghdad with street fighting.

Since yesterday, the supporters of the Sadr Movement have repeatedly republished the call for the demonstration in cyberspace, so that it will be held in front of the entrance of the Green Zone today, Saturday. Despite closing the bridges and roads leading to Tahrir square and the entrance to the green area in the center of the Iraqi capital, rioters supporting “Sayed Moqtadi al-Sadr” threatened today (Saturday) to enter the “green” area.
