Today (Tuesday), he told the Baghdad Al-Youm website that the words of the Turkish Foreign Minister are not acceptable and that Iraq does not accept the continued presence of Turkish troops in its territory, especially after the parliament voted to withdraw all foreign forces from Iraq.

Alivi further asked the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to summon Ankara’s ambassador in Baghdad to protest the words of the Turkish Foreign Minister and Turkey’s insistence on continuing its presence on Iraqi soil.

He also called for Iraq to take action in international forums to expel Turkish forces and considered this presence as a threat to Iraq’s national security.

Mevlut Cavusoglu had previously said in an interview that Turkish army forces will never withdraw from northern Iraq and Syria in the current situation.

In this interview, he considered the meeting between Erdoğan and Bashar Assad as probable and said that first of all, a road map for this meeting and the necessity of not having any preconditions should be considered.

Turkey’s foreign minister emphasized on the continued presence of the country’s army in northern Syria and Iraq while the defense ministers of Syria, Iran, Turkey and Russia are going to hold a joint meeting in Moscow soon.
