Is it possible to import an economical car?



Online Economy – Parham Karimi; While the car import regulations were supposed to be finalized and published by the Ministry of Safety by the end of June, while the first week of August has ended, there is still no news of the publication of these regulations, and the officials of the Ministry of Safety blame this delay on the government delegation.

Qalibaf, the advisor to the Minister of Security, had previously told Economy Online in this regard: the regulation has been finalized in the Ministry of Security for a long time, and its details have been reviewed by the government board, and this regulation will be published soon.

In addition to the delay in the finalization of the regulation, another issue that has brought many margins is the import of an economic car or a 10,000 dollar car. Officials of the Ministry of Security have repeatedly announced the importation of $10,000 cars and called the importation of such cars a way to control the market as well as creating competition and alternatives to domestically produced cars.

This issue has been raised several times by Minister Samat and he has said in this regard: We emphasize on the import of economic cars; It means cars that are under ten thousand dollars; Because we want to eliminate Peugeot, Samand and Tiba. Fatemi Amin also stated: We are looking for the majority of imports to be at a price of less than 10,000 dollars in order to complete the market of the products and to gradually domesticate them.

In addition to replacing economically imported cars, the Ministry of Security states that the main purpose of car imports is to provide cars for the low income deciles of the society.

Omid Qalibaf told Ekhtaz Online about this: 50% of the market’s demand is related to the three deciles of the society’s income, and we can meet this need by importing economical cars.

But such statements regarding imported cars, especially economic ones, have many ambiguities that many experts have reacted to.

The first point is the effort of the Ministry of Security to replace imported cars with domestically produced cars. Morteza Shojaei, an expert in the automotive industry, called imports a policy to regulate the market and considered it impossible to link the policy of market regulation with the country’s automobile industry.

The next point is the use of the word economic for 10,000 dollar cars, and considering a car that costs 300 million tomans in the country as low as possible, it is ambiguous. Mehdi Dadfar, the secretary of the Car Importers Association, describes the economic car as follows: An economic car means that you can buy it by saving an average salary of one year. In Iran, you have to save at least 5 years of salary to buy this economic car.

Now it should be seen that with all the existing uncertainties, when will the regulations for the import of the car that is stuck in the government station be finalized, and in what price range and when will the imported cars arrive in the country, and finally, can the import be locked in the car market? to open as the ministry of secrecy hopes?
