It is not possible to import cars without the JCPOA

According to the report of Economy Online; After four years of prohibition, car imports were finally officially released this spring. Although after promulgation of the law The import of cars in the middle of June by Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf was supposed to finalize the import regulations in the government board within a month, but in the end, with a delay of two months, the car import regulations were approved by the government board.
After the publication of the car import regulation, many experts made serious criticisms about it and considered the import of cars with this regulation far from expected. Nevertheless, Sadegh Al-Husseini, an economist, believes that car importation has nothing to do with regulations, and in fact, if the current conditions of the country’s economy continue, it cannot be expected that car imports will be carried out on a large scale with any regulations.
Al-Hosseini stated that the implementation of the car import regulation is not important and said: if the currency conditions of the country continue in the same way and the economic sanctions are not removed completely, it will not be possible to import cars and other discussions It is meaningless to talk about the effect of imports on the car market. As long as the currency crisis continues and the JCPOA issue is not resolved, the government does not have foreign currency to allocate to car imports. On the other hand, if the JCPOA is revived, the country will find a trade surplus, and in this situation, it must allocate a part of it to car imports.
Al-Hosseini emphasized that with the revival of the JCPOA, not only the import of cars will be freed, but also all kinds of cars and not only economic cars will enter the country. However, if the JCPOA is not revived, car imports will not be accepted on a large scale; Because the country practically does not have the necessary foreign exchange resources and it will not be possible to import cars in any price range.
