Italy: France’s protests should not spread to other regions of Europe

According to Fars International News Agency, the Italian Foreign Minister said on Monday that the spread of protests in France to other parts of Europe should be prevented.

According to the news agency “ANatoli” “Antonio Tajani” said in an interview with “Rai” news channel that the situation seems to have calmed down in France.

The murder of a 17-year-old teenager has disturbed France since last week. Since then, the unrest has spread to other French cities and regions.

“We have to prevent this situation from spreading to Belgium, Switzerland and other French-speaking regions like that,” Tajani said. Those involved in violent acts should be isolated and problems should be resolved at political levels.

On Sunday, the media reported the spread of public gatherings from France to Switzerland in protest against the killing of a teenager in a French city by the police. The Swiss police announced in a statement that 7 teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 were arrested during the riots. Protesters attacked shops and police forces by throwing stones and Molotov cocktails.

The Swiss police announced that no injuries were reported during the violent riots. The scope of this demonstration was also extended to Belgium and 63 people were arrested in the past days (more details).

Continuing his speech, the Italian Foreign Minister asked the Italian citizens living in France to follow the warnings of the local authorities and avoid conflict areas.

The Minister of Defense of Italy also called the situation in France very worrying. Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosto said on the sidelines of the Youth Festival: “We are very close to Paris and it is difficult for the French government to manage this situation.”

He stated: “We hope that this situation will end because the violence that has occurred not only affects France and its institutions, but also many French citizens, and this is not acceptable.”
