According to Fars news agency, Jalal Maqmi has passed away a few days ago and now more than ever his empty place is felt. He, who was one of the most important dubbing artists of our country, had a catchy and memorable voice. But the general public remembers a place with the memory of the “sightseeing” collection. Now the cinema museum has published a rarely seen interview of this great artist of our country, which can introduce him to the audience and lovers of art and cinema more than ever.
At the beginning of this conversation, the late official, who was known as one of the most important dubbing artists in our country, stated that at first he was not very interested in dubbing, and said: I loved theater since I was a child and I always dreamed of becoming a theater actor on stage. I want to go, but very soon and since I was 16 years old, I entered dubbing and started working.
Stating that he had acted in several movies when he was young, he added: I remember one night we had a private screening of a movie and people like Jalal Al Ahmad, Abbas Pahlavan and Sepanlu came to see the movie.
At the end of the screening of the film, Al Ahmed called me and said that I acted very well in front of the camera and I was very happy that someone like Al Ahmed complimented my performance, but that film was not well received, that’s why I lost motivation and left the cinema. I put Of course, before the cinema, I had also acted in two series “Nights of Angels” on the network.
We didn’t have a TV in our house because of my father’s objection. The series was aired on Thursday nights and my family were guests at my aunt’s house and happened to see a part of my game. That night, when I returned from the radio, I realized that my father was awake. I was 19 years old at that time. He asked me where I was and I told him I was coming back from the radio and he explained that he had seen me on TV and asked me not to appear in movies and series anymore. My father was not interested in acting at all.
Maggi noted: I remember Majid Mohseni’s movie “Nightingale of the Farm” wanted me to act instead of Javad Qaim Maggi, but Mr. Latifpour, who was my master in the dubbing, did not allow it, and when the film was screened, it was well received and I regret it. I wondered why I didn’t appear, maybe if I had acted in that movie, my fate would have been different.
He went on to say: When I realized that people welcomed dubbing, I was more drawn to it. I remember we went to the cinema to see the movie “Glory of Grassland”, Jamshid Mehrdad was also doing dubbing at that time and was present at that screening.
People were waiting for the screening of the movie to start, once Mr. Mehrdad said in a loud voice that Dublor is one of the characters of the movie Jalal Mazi, who is present here now, and people came to me, took photos and autographs, and I was very happy.
During the dubbing of Doctor Zhivago and many other films, the role affected us so much that we wanted to speak for him, we really cried. In fact, the film takes us to itself and considering that we were young, we could put ourselves in the place of the characters.
Stating that my master in dubbing was the actors themselves, an official said: No dubbing director can tell the dubbing what to feel because the actor himself gives the dubbing the real feeling. I remember when I was speaking for Muki Myuklio, all my attention was on his face and eyes to see how I could get a real sense of him.
He mentioned: I remember a movie by Laurel and Hadi Samet. They had translated the captions of the movie, I think it was about 10 pages, and they told me to write the dialogue for the movie with the translation they had given. At that time, I was very eager to do the work. That’s why I went behind Moyla’s desk and wrote constantly and asked Mr. Moqbali and Mr. Abbasi to speak instead of Laurel and Hadi.
The official further added: “Several years ago, in a ceremony where people of poetry and literature were present, they invited me to go on the stage and speak. At first, I was a little nervous because all the professors of poetry and literature were present in the hall, and when I wanted to stand up I said, God, help me.
I said to myself, what should I say in front of these elders? At first I was silent and after a few seconds I said that I have lived behind the microphone for 45 years and I have never been afraid except today in front of you elders who are the ones who speak. I can only say that my time is not bad, people of Kashan, and… Then, pictures of sights were played again, and when I came to sit down, one of the elders said, “Why are you so humble?” When we were young, we read the world’s greatest literature with your voice.
