Jane Campion was nominated by the American Directors Guild

Jane Campion won the American Directors Guild (DGA) Annual Grand Prix for “Dog Power” to take a big step towards shining at the Academy Awards.
Theater News Base: The 74th annual Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards were held, and Jane Campion’s “Dog Power” won Best Director for Best Feature Film.
Paul Thomas Anderson (Pizza Licorice), Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), Steven Spielberg (West Side Story) and Dennis Villeneuve (Tel Sand) were also nominated for Best Director at the awards. All but one of Dennis Villeneuve are nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards.
Nominees for the American Directors Guild are one of the best predictors of the Academy Awards, and in the last 18 editions of the Directors Guild Awards, the winner has been the same as the Oscar winner in 16 cases.
Last year, Chloe Zhao was nominated by the American Directors Guild for “Land of the Displaced,” and eventually won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director. The American Directors Guild Awards, one of the most prestigious American film awards, and during more than seven decades of these important film awards, only nine women were nominated for the Directors Guild Awards, most recently Chloe Zhao and Emerald Phenol. They were nominated for this award in the past.
In other categories of this year’s Directors Guild Awards, “Maggie Gyllenhaal” won Best First Director for “Girl.”
In the television category, the award for best director of the drama and comedy series went to “Mark Milood” for “Heritage” and “Lucia Anilo” for “Hux”, respectively, and “Barry Jenkins” for “Underground Rail” won the best director for the series. Dedicated to television or mini-series.
