Japanese line up to watch Hayao Miyazaki’s latest film

Hayao Miyazaki fans lined up outside Japanese theaters to be the first to see the Oscar-winning animator’s latest feature film, and they had no idea what was in store for them.

While the film’s title is taken from a best-selling 1937 novel by Genzaburo Yoshino, Studio Ghibli confirmed that the plot is an original story by Miyazaki.
The increased interest in Yoshino’s book among fans trying to decipher clues about Miyazaki’s anime and its publication prompted the publishers to reprint the book and release an illustrated adaptation. This novel is about a boy who goes to the village with his father after his mother dies in a fire during the Japanese war. There he meets a hen who takes him to an alternate world, where the secret of his mother’s death is slowly revealed.
Isaku Kimura, a student who was among Miyazaki’s fans, said after watching the movie, “It’s not like I feel like there’s anything special about this anime, just because it’s his last work, but I definitely saw a lot of Miyazaki’s characteristics in the movie, and it was exciting.”

He continued to work in various roles in the animation industry during that decade until he released his first feature film, Lupine 3: The Castle of Cagliostro, in 1979.
Although Miyazaki’s films had long been commercial and critical successes in Japan, he was largely unknown in the West until Miramax released Princess Mononoke, which broke Japanese box office records and became the first animated film to win Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards.
In 1997, Miyazaki announced his retirement from directing in order to make room for younger talents, after making the movie “Princess Mononoke”, which was one of the most successful animations at that time, but in 2001, he returned to the field of directing and made the movie “City of Ghosts”, which became the world’s best-selling animated film and won the Berlin Golden Bear in 2002 and the Oscar in 2003.
In 2013, he returned to the cinemas with the controversial animated film “The Wind Blows”, which caused many protests for him, to the point where he was accused of supporting the manufacturer of warplanes that cause war, but in the end, this film managed to make it to the final nominees of the Oscars and won the award for the best foreign film of the year at the Golden Globe Awards.
