Javaherian: Animation is a suitable platform for teaching culture to children and teenagers

Mahin Javaherian, the producer, director and lecturer in the field of cinema and cinematographer who is responsible for the selection and judging of the animation works of the 40th Tehran International Short Film Festival, in an interview with the film reporter of Fars News Agency, said about the selections in this section: I am very sensitive to selection and judging and Every time I judge the works, I ask myself whether I have done justice in judging or not. But then again, I miss judging and I accept it. When I judge the works, I do a lot of pathology on different topics and for example, I look at the possibilities of filmmaking in several cities.

Referring to his interest in the Tehran Short Film Festival, he added: The reason I participate in the Tehran Short Film Festival every year is to see my colleagues and friends, whom I miss, and this makes me welcome the selection and judging of such an important event.

He further stated: I remember that in previous years, the works submitted to the Tehran Short Film Festival had less time, but now short works are defined up to 30 minutes. 15 minutes included, because 30 minutes in animation can be a half-length film; Although, in the 40th Tehran Short Film Festival, most of the works submitted in the animation section were around 8 minutes.

Javaherian said about the idea of ​​animated short films of the festival and observing the principles of illustration in them: a large number of works were from different cities of the country, for this reason many participants did not have enough facilities and of course it is admirable that with effort, few facilities and no training in participated in the festival; If possible, I would like to give a score for the participants of the cities in the next courses.

He said about his view on the place of animation in Iranian cinema: Our animation had gained importance and growth almost until around the time of Corona, and the quality of Iranian films was really excellent in the animation festival of the Center for Intellectual Development of Children and Adolescents and the animation section of the Tehran Short Film Festival. and the audience was not even willing to miss a moment of the movie; But unfortunately, animation and all arts are dependent on the economy. That is, when the economy declines, art finds the same situation, and when the economy flourishes, art becomes more visible, as a result, because the economic conditions of the country were not suitable, animation suffered a lot. Making animation, contrary to its pleasant appearance, is a time-consuming and exhausting task.

Javaherian said about the performance of the Iranian Youth Cinema Association: I think the performance of the Iranian Youth Cinema Association has been good; But no organization can do anything alone, and the rest of the organizations must also be involved. Many people don’t know what animation is at all, and how can we teach culture to children and teenagers who create the future in this situation? While animation is the most appropriate cultural platform for teaching our children and teenagers. You may not believe it, but it is interesting to know that one of the French lessons is about Iranian films.
