Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman directed the film Jean Dillman at the age of 25, and in this 70s classic, he told the story of three days in the daily life of a middle-aged widow. In the 2012 “Sight and Sound” survey, the film “Jean Dillman” was in the 36th place, and along with “Good Job” (1998) by “Claire Dennis” which won the 78th place in the list, as the only films directed by women. were considered to have made it to the list of top 100 films. Also, for the first time in the history of the “Sight and Sound” survey, several black directors have entered the list. In 2012, a film by Senegalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty was the only film by a black director to make the top 100 list. This year, the number of black directors in this list has reached seven.
In this year’s “Sight and Sound” list, two animated films have also been selected for the first time: “My Neighbor Totoro” by Hayao Miyazaki at the 72nd place and another “Ghost Town” by Miyazaki at the 75th place.
