Joseph Borrell: Today is more optimistic than yesterday – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell confirmed Monday that EU and Iranian diplomats had met in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on Thursday to resume nuclear talks (reviving the UN Security Council) in Vienna. He declined, but expressed hope that the meeting would take place soon.

“You know, I’m more optimistic today than I was yesterday,” Borrell said.

“The meeting has not been confirmed yet, but things are getting better, and I hope we will have preliminary meetings in Brussels in the coming days,” he said, attending a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

Borrell had previously told reporters in Washington that he was ready to meet with Iranian officials but could not say when the meeting might take place.

“If necessary, I am ready to host them,” he added.

Meanwhile, EU envoy Enrique Mora, who is in charge of coordinating the Vienna nuclear talks, who was in Tehran, met with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister on Thursday.

It is worth mentioning that after the meeting of “Ali Bagheri”, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Enrique Mora, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the European Union in Tehran, announced on October 13 that the talks were scheduled to resume in Brussels in the next two weeks. Be.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief has previously said that the bloc will not consider a “Plan B” or “second plan” if diplomacy fails to revive the UN Security Council.

This statement can be seen as a clear contradiction to the claim of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who said “if Iran does not change course, we are ready to resort to other options.”
