Google Play Store Localization

The idea of localizing the Google Play Store in Russia came about earlier this month when Google suspended all its payment services in Russia and instead asked developers to release important apps for free. Vladimir Zykov, project manager for Digital Platforms, an organization focused on digital development, told Reuters:

Unfortunately, Russians can no longer use Google Play normally or buy apps. This has also blocked the way for developers to monetize. This has led us to create a Russian app store called NashStore.

The word Nash‌Store in Russian is the English equivalent of Our‌Store or «Our store” Is. The new App Store will serve all Android devices throughout Russia and is also compatible with Bank Mir Russia cards.

As mentioned, this App Store will be launched on May 9th. May 9 is the day of the Red Army’s victory over the German invading forces, and every year on this day the Russians demonstrate their military might with a parade in Moscow’s Red Square.
