Macron and Salman examined the developments in the region

According to news media, during Macron’s meeting with bin Salman bin Abdulaziz in Jeddah on Saturday, bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Middle East were examined.

During the visit, the French President announced his country’s and Saudi Arabia’s plan to resolve the crisis between Riyadh and Beirut.

“As part of the plan to resolve the crisis between Riyadh and Beirut, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and I contacted Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati today,” he said.

Before leaving Jeddah, Macron said that Saudi Arabia and Lebanon want full interaction to resume relations between the two countries.

This is the first visit of a high-ranking Western official to Saudi Arabia since the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashgechi (2018) at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Macron’s trip to three Arab countries in the Persian Gulf started on Friday. The purpose of his visit is to discuss with the officials of these countries the strengthening of bilateral relations, the crises in the Middle East, the fight against terrorism, Lebanon, the elections in Libya and, most importantly, the conclusion of major arms and nuclear agreements.
