Mafi: We need new types of research

According to Fars News Agency, the 5th Iranian Cinema Research Award was held this morning on December 14 at the Ministry of Guidance.
In this meeting, Amirreza Mafi, the secretary of this event, Mino Khani, a member of the jury, and Qadir Ashna, the vice president of technology development and studies of the cinema organization, were present.
At the beginning of this meeting, Ashna said: The topic of our meeting is about the research of the year that Mr. Mafi and his colleagues worked hard to make another golden leaf.

He added: “The cinematographic organization knows its duty to see the works of cinematographic research and to respect it. This year, we called to pay attention to research first and asked all the research institutes, professors, etc. to state their research priority. Therefore, there are nearly two hundred and Andi announced the priority, we also summarized the cases and announced the priorities, in the end 36 final plans came out of which we approved 8 plans, which are generally about the state of Iranian cinema, the release of foreign films, the ratio of cinema to the economy, the ratio of films to religious identity and It was national and… So far, we have held 10 research meetings and reached a good conclusion.

By the end of the year, we are trying to upload all the researches that have been done in Irshad in the last few years on the website of the deputy director of technology development and studies of the cinema organization so that others can benefit. Good researches have been done and our effort is to make our researches practical.

Then Mafi stated: The Iranian Cinema Research Award was established by the efforts of the management and former vice president of guidance, and its four periods were held. It is a shining cornerstone that was vacant.

92 works reached the secretariat of this award

According to the statute, the research award is supposed to deal with the current researches of Iranian cinema, it has its macro approaches, and this year we paid attention to the declaration of the second step of the Islamic revolution. This award was held in seven sections. A total of 92 works were received by the secretariat of this award, and in terms of number, the works of scientific articles were at the top.

I must also say that this year, the members of the scientific council and the jury were the same. In the past, the jury was held in different forms, because the research award does not have a festival form, and for this reason, it has experienced different forms of jury, so this year a jury of 7 members was formed. We gave, while the jury and the selection board were the same. In general, 38 works were selected and made it to the final judging.

This year we will also have a special award whose name is Dr. Amirhassan Nadai; He was present in several research award courses. On December 29, the closing ceremony of the award will be held at the cinema museum after the closing of “Cinema-Ghekrit” and the winners will be announced.

The secretary of this event said about the impact of recent events on this award: I have not seen any reaction so far, of course, due to the circumstances that have occurred, the call was extended for fifteen days. The reception of this course was similar to its average in previous years and we did not see any significant difference.

Awarding of “Dr. Amirhassan Nadayi” award

He said about the awarding of a special award to Dr. Amir Hassan Nadai: Due to Dr. Nadai’s continuous presence, we made a collective decision that the secretary will give a special award to his efforts. The feature of this award is that Nedai believed that cinema is a product of different arts, the emergence of all arts together can lead to cinema, so a work that has such a feature and deals with different aspects will receive this award.

He stated: We had a time consideration in the judging, that is, the works that were produced from the end of the previous period to the current period could participate.
Mafi stated: Regarding the relationship between researchers and cinema, we must say that in different eras, research, especially in the field of art, was always considered as a secondary issue. They consider research to be cumbersome, so our concept of research is tied to the university, even part of the research is done in the university, but the idea that I have of research is not only related to theses and dissertations, we want to tie cinema and research. We need new types of research such as essays.

Of course, this work is not the work of today and tomorrow, and it takes time. Cinematographers should be aware that research is their support, and our researchers should go in the direction that what they produce will help Iranian cinema.

I should also mention that considering that the research award is a national award, we propose the main topics, but the work of the topics goes back to the vice president of development, however, we have had a variety of topics this year, which was a pleasure for us, although I know that the variety of topics The meaning of wealth is not an issue.
The secretary of this event stated: Most of the works that have been awarded this award are theses and dissertations, and less research projects have reached our hands. This shows that people who are interested enter this field, but their actions are disconnected. We have not yet come to believe that research is the basis of cinema. yogurt.

Furthermore, Mino Khani, a member of the jury, said whether the secretary had any involvement in the selection of works or not: Mr. Maffei did not have any opinion in our comments because our intention was to select a work that would help promote Iranian cinema. In the judging process, we gave more favor to applied research.
Mafi also said: In these years, I have spoken about cinema through the lens of humanities and I have emphasized many times that cinema must be viewed from different dimensions. Humanities and especially philosophy are definitely effective in analyzing cinema and it is definitely effective in opening horizons in the path of cinema, but Humanities should not interfere in the natural life of cinema.

He continued: In choosing the members of the selection committee and the jury, we took several points into consideration. Theoretical foundations are important, but I did not interfere in this year’s judging process, I did not create a path, and the judging panel acted independently.

In another part of his talk about the poster of this event, Mafi said: The design of the poster was a collective effort and we tried to look at the younger ones. The poster was made by Milad Javadi who worked very hard. which was approved for the award, there are forty-three candles in this image, which is based on the passage of forty-three years since the revolution, and if the root of this candle is thought, it will shine more.

Mino Khani also said: “As a teacher, I am happy that we have students who are interested in cinema, who are watching the opportunity to do research and their research will help cinema. In fact, if we don’t have a research institute, but these individual researches are worthy of appreciation.”
