Majid Majidi: The Arbaeen walk should not be just reported

According to Fars News Agency, Majid Majidi, director and member of the mourning jury, referring to the importance of holding this event, said: Muharram and Safar events are important not only for Shiites but for the whole Islamic world, but unfortunately in this area. Little effective work has been done. One of the reasons is that entering this field requires a lot of courage and requires a lot of experience. So we felt the need to lay the groundwork and sow the seeds so that we could bring young filmmakers into the field.
Majidi continued: “We are still at the beginning of the road and this year the second period of this mourning will be held.” We hope that this path will continue because our goal is that this mourning is not limited to holding just one event and that we will be able to produce valuable works in the coming years by raising capital.
This presence must be able to be translated into the language of art
The director of the film, Mohammad Rasoolullah (PBUH), explained about the experience of holding the first period of this event: Last year, we had about 10 selected works, which can be said with confidence that they were produced by good directors. If these directors are supported and we help them in making the next works, we will see the creation of great works in the future.
He added: “The reason for holding this mourning from the beginning was to be able to understand an image of what happened around the days of Muharram and Safar.” For example, Arbaeen can be considered as one of the greatest religious rituals, which may have more participants in the Hajj event. Dealing with this ritual can be very valuable, however, if the camera is to record only the presence of people, it is practically no different from reporting, and it should be possible to translate this presence into another language, the language of art, and get ideas from it. Promote Ashura culture and pass this culture on to future generations and even to the world.
* If we want to convey the right message and look to the audience, we must avoid exaggeration
The director of “Children of Heaven” explained the reason for the time limit of the works that are sent to the mourner: One of the reasons we considered this time short was to increase creativity. If we want to convey the right message and look to the audience, we must have more capabilities and abilities and avoid exaggeration.
He continues: “Perhaps the couplet poems are an example of this. In these poems, the poet should only summarize the essence of his words in the couplet and at the same time attract the audience.” A short film is like a couplet that should be in its most attractive and short form.
The director of the Ashura mourning short film Tenth Picture stressed that young filmmakers should make the most of the opportunity: Participating in this mourning can certainly open many windows for young and novice filmmakers. Stepping and intending in this way, which is attributed to the holy site of the martyrs, is a kind of success for any young filmmaker. In addition, we promise to give special support to any novice filmmaker who brings a new look with us, and we see it as our mission to support the future work of these filmmakers and to provide a good platform for them.
The second mourning of the Ashura short film “Tenth Picture” directed by Majid Majidi and written by Mohammad Rahbar and judged by Majid Majidi, Reza Mirkarimi and Nima Javidi will be held soon. They have the opportunity to upload their works on the site of this event at tasvir10.ir and refer to Instagram @javanane_rahe_iman for more information.
