“Masayoshi’s death” in 7 years of Japanese occupation / Our information about Japan is incomplete + Video

Mohammad Javad Reisi, the producer of the documentary “The Death of Masayoshi”, who is in the Martyr Avini section of the 15th International Truth Film Festival, told a Fars News Agency cinema reporter about the idea of this work, which examines political and historical developments in Japan from the 19th to the modern era. The issue had not been addressed in Iran either before or not comprehensively. Moreover, with the historical approach that we used in this work and it was important to us, no documentary has been produced before. On the other hand, “Masayoshi Death” did not seek a political message or purpose.

Regarding the reason for addressing the issue of 7 years of Japanese occupation and American influence in this country, he said in the documentary “Death of Masayoshi”: We have continuously, it was raised. Japan is one of the countries in the world, both culturally and economically, and Iranian audiences have been dealing with Japanese goods and products and even information about this country for many years, but this information is incomplete in some parts, and we wanted to cover them. Make us more aware.

“I think the audience who sees this film can make a better judgment about the current and future state of Japan,” Reisi said. In fact, it’s an idea of what Japan is today and will be in the future. Because we do not know many facts about Japan and our assessments of its people and culture are sometimes wrong. Perhaps giving details about Japan’s situation in World War II and its relationship with the United States will give us a better view of the country.

“Anyway, this is a historical mistake and also part of the historical facts in” We have said this work; About the Japanese launching an attack, but in fact it was a trap from the Americans. Of course, we have tried not to judge the film audience directly, at least not directly, and that we have not spoken directly about the Japanese being involved in the economic and security pact, but about those parts of World War II political history and what we thought were historical facts. We acted transparently. In general, it has been important to us whether the audience is positive or negative about the impact that the Plaza Pact will have on Japan over the next hundred years.

* The Japanese have archived rich image archives of their history

The producer also explained how to access the archival resources on the subject of the documentary: The archive used and the images of “Masayoshi’s Death” are the result of the efforts of Hossein Safarzadeh, the director of this documentary. At the same time, I must say that the Japanese, unlike many other countries, have good archives of their historical events and have recorded the events. I do not know if the reason for this is their cultural perspective or historical background, but the search for visual substitutes for the narratives in “Masayoshi Death” was done for us through various methods.

“This documentary is the product of the Awj organization, and we as producers always want our films to be seen,” he said of plans to air the documentary after its screening at the 15th International Truth Film Festival. I hope that there will be a good cooperation for the release of the film and that “Masayoshi Death” will be seen. Of course, due to the fact that copyright law is not observed in our country and we are not a member of the Berne Convention, the international presence of this film in foreign festivals is practically impossible and we do not have access to obtain a license for the images used in the film.

Reisi also said about the Haghighat Film Festival: “This event has a specialized audience like the documentary cinema itself.” Although in recent years the general public has become somewhat accustomed to watching documentaries, we still have to say that it has a specialized audience, or rather an elite.

In the production sections of “Masayoshi Death” narrated by a Japanese person named Masayoshi, the use of the first person singular narrative in Persian may reduce the level of credibility. “This section was based on the director’s idea and he has a better explanation about it, but the main reason for using this type of narrative is to communicate better with the audience,” Reisi said. It is from the perspective that it can establish this better communication. Although this method may not be common, it is a style that we have rarely seen and the director has dared to talk about.

He also said about the production process of this documentary: The process of idea to production and post-production of this documentary took about 10 months. For the first three months, we were more involved in general research and shaping the initial idea, followed by screenwriting, editing, sound, and other parts. The production parts of “Masayoshi Death” were filmed in the village of Halimeh Jan in Gilan, and its character is an Iranian who has a face similar to the Japanese. We have produced this work for the general public and the Truth Film Festival can also be an opportunity to connect with them.
