Medvedev: It was America that withdrew from the “Open Skies” treaty

According to the report of Fars International News Agency, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy of the Russian National Security Council, reminded today (Friday) that it was the US government that withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty.
In a statement on his official Telegram channel, Medvedev wrote about the downing of an American drone near Russian airspace: “There is no international convention in this regard. The Chicago Convention in 1944 and other international documents do not say anything about these issues.
He stated that in the absence of international laws regarding the flight of drones near the borders of countries, domestic laws are being formed; He explained: “By the way, I remind you that the Americans destroyed the Open Skies Treaty, which gave the right to military inspections.”
While referring to the existence of the terms “prohibited areas” and “restricted flight areas” in military aviation, the former president of Russia stated that there are restrictions on the flight of airplanes and other aircraft in such areas, and this is done by the government of each country.
Medvedev continued: “Unmanned aircraft must also follow these rules. Especially in the period of hostilities, which is known to all airspace users. In addition, sometimes it is difficult to determine the exact moment when a plane or drone entered the sky of a country based on the maritime border.
Emphasizing that the place where the American drone was shot down is part of Russia’s territory and under the sovereign right of this country, he said: “To put it simply, the Americans have completely lost their minds and it is wrong to confront them.”
This Russian security official also added: “Of course, it is necessary to maintain military contacts, especially considering the statements of low-ranking Americans such as Senator Graham that it is necessary to shoot down Russian planes. By the way, sometimes air accidents happen because of such creatures.”
Earlier, Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador in Washington, strongly warned against any US military planes approaching his country’s airspace again.
