“Miyazaki” opens the San Sebastian Festival



The latest animation created by the famous Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki will open the 71st San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.

“The Boy and the Kingfisher” opened in Japan on July 14th and grossed $13.2 million in its first week to break the record for the biggest opening in Studio Ghibli’s history. In a bold move, the company released this animation without any advertising, marketing or story.

In 1997, after making the movie “Princess Mononoke”, which was one of the most successful animations at that time, “Miyazaki” announced his retirement from directing to make room for younger talents, but in 2001, he returned to the field of directing and He created the film “City of Ghosts”, which became the world’s highest-grossing animated film and won the Berlin Golden Bear in 2002 and the Oscar in 2003.

In 2013, he returned to the cinemas with the controversial animated film “The Wind Blows”, which caused a lot of protests for him, to the point where he was accused of supporting the manufacturer of warplanes that cause war, but in the end, this film It managed to make it to the final nominees of the Oscars and won the award for the best foreign film of the year at the Golden Globe Awards.

The 71st San Sebastian Film Festival will be held in Spain from September 22 to 30 (September 31 to October 8).
