Monsoon hit Iran, but in the negligence of the country’s crisis management/ fruitless field visits by the officials at the time of the incidents

According to the social reporter of Moj news agency, these days everyone is talking about the “monsoon” phenomenon, which hit Iran in the last week and just when people were complaining about the heat and affected more than 20 provinces of the country. An event that should have made us happy during these drought days, but with the death and homelessness of many people, it made everyone sad and no one could prevent the material and spiritual damage caused by the torrential rains.

What is the monsoon phenomenon?

“Monsoon” is derived from the word “season” in Arabic and means season, and the main reason for the formation of this phenomenon is the annual temperature change in large land areas compared to the levels of the neighboring oceans.

In fact, monsoon refers to a current that originates in the tropical regions of the northern Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal.

This phenomenon is caused by the temperature difference between the land and the sea, which turns the rising current from this area into moisture and turns into torrential rains; The incident that took place in Iran and neighboring countries in recent days.

Iran’s climate is usually dry in the summer season, but at this time, if the conditions are favorable, moisture enters Iran from the southeast, i.e., the Indian Ocean, and rain occurs; This humidity is very high, and when it enters Iran, it encounters the high heat of summer and brings heavy and heavy rains, which is called the monsoon rain system.

The viral images of floods in the country are really painful and thanks to some imprudent officials, the rain of God’s mercy, which should have made us happy in this drought situation, turned into a sad nightmare, and these days, instead of exploiting these rains, the only concern is There has been an increase in the number of casualties and billions in damage to cities and villages.

It must be accepted that the recent climate changes that have affected the entire planet have also changed the amount of annual rainfall.

The monsoon phenomenon watered the thirsty wetlands of the country

According to experts, recent rains that have covered a wide area of the country have added 15 to 25 mm to Iran’s rainfall level, and now the water has reached a number of dry wetlands and watered them.

As we know, floods, like any other climatic phenomenon, will leave many positive and negative effects on the ecosystem, environment and human activities.

The positive and negative effects of flood consequences depend on the location, the intensity of the flood, the vulnerability of an environment to floods and different regions in terms of climate, topography, geology and environment, and we must know that the duration of the flood, its speed and depth also have an effect on the mentioned factors. It has a different meaning.

The negative and immediate effects of floods are not hidden from anyone and it causes the life index to decrease and affects the agricultural products. Floods lead to the loss of livestock, which endangers human life.

Floods damage infrastructure, communication routes, electricity and telecommunication networks, sewage networks and water treatment systems, and in many cases affect the health conditions of the community for a while.

But as mentioned, floods, like many environmental phenomena, can have significant and positive consequences on the ecosystem.

Flooding plays a significant role in maintaining the natural functioning of the ecosystem and affects biodiversity. In fact, floods help to spread and distribute organic materials and distribute sediments in floodplains, and proper soil moisture that occurs after floods stabilizes vegetation and its consequences, such as preventing the development of deserts and dust.

WMO, or the World Meteorological Organization, has introduced Iran as one of the 15 flood-prone countries in the world that face numerous weather phenomena such as monsoon or El Niño at different intervals.

Iran is the fourth flood-prone country in the world

The director general of the flood control and watershed management office of the organization of forests, pastures and watersheds also announced about Iran: Iran is the fourth flood-prone country in the world and about 26% of the country is exposed to severe floods and floods.

According to experts, due to climate change, the pattern of rains has changed, so that instead of continuous and gentle rains for several months, we see the same volume of water in a few days or finally a week with heavy rains.

The recent floods in the country were important from two perspectives; First of all, the type of exposure from the perspective of preparation and facilities and crisis management; One of the causes of the damage was aggravated in the flooded areas, and secondly, the weak management of water resources. It is unfortunate that we cannot store and use this volume of water flowing on the surface of the earth.

Fruitless field visits by officials at the time of incidents

In the past few years, due to the carelessness of the authorities in the water sector, the downpour of divine mercy has brought destruction and damage to most regions of the country and made many people mourn their loved ones. If they find it and settle for a field visit, nothing will be solved and it will lead to people’s mistrust.

Three years have passed since the flood of Shiraz and still most of the flood channels and river banks have become a place for the construction of special strata and no measures have been taken to face the next incident and these days after three years, the weakness of our system in the area Crisis management is more visible than ever.

It should be noted that when crises such as floods and other weather hazards occur, whether we are in the position of an ordinary citizen or a city official who is responsible for part of the crisis management, the most important issue is to know about the occurrence of a crisis in time, but there is still a delay. Issuing a warning causes many people to be surprised when faced with such incidents.

The WMO organization has assessed the level of flood risk in Iran according to the geography of the country and ranked us among the first six damaged countries due to encroachment on the boundaries of rivers, waterways, construction in the boundaries of rivers and destruction of vegetation. Has been faced with flooding.

Drought and dust are the result of carelessness on the part of the authorities

Certainly, widespread encroachment on natural resources and destruction of forests and vegetation greatly increases the probability of such incidents. Moreover, according to the statements of meteorological experts, Iran is in a changing weather condition that if the authorities do not take the necessary measures for these changes, we will be surprised by the rain in the summer season and complain about the heat of some days in the cold seasons. We have no proper use of water resources, we have to witness the drying up of many wetlands, rivers and lakes in the country and then coexist with drought and the emerging phenomenon of micro-pollen!

I have to say; According to the announced statistics, the recent flood has left about 70 victims and more than 30 missing.
