Moscow: British tanks in Ukraine will burn

According to Fars International News Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday (January 16, 26) that the tanks that Britain plans to send to Ukraine will be burned.

Britain announced on Saturday that it would send 14 Challenger 2 main battle tanks and other advanced artillery support to Ukraine in the coming weeks, Reuters reported.

Responding to London’s announcement, Peskov said: Sending new weapons from countries like Great Britain and Poland will not change the situation in the field and will only cause more problems for Kiev. New tanks will burn like the rest.

The spokesman of the Russian Presidential Palace also said in another part of his speech that the Moscow forces did not target residential buildings in their missile attack. He made these comments in response to claims that a Russian missile hit a residential complex in Dnipro in a missile attack two days ago that Kiev claims killed more than 30 civilians. He added: The situation in Dnipro is the result of anti-missile and air defense of Ukraine.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s office announced that Britain would coordinate its military support for Kiev with them after allies London, Germany, France and the United States said last week that they would provide armored vehicles to Ukraine.

“The Prime Minister outlined Britain’s strong desire to step up support for Ukraine, including through the procurement of Challenger 2 tanks and more artillery systems,” a Sunak spokesman said.

The Challenger 2 is a battle tank designed to attack other tanks and has been in service with the British Army since 1994. According to the British Army, this type of tank is also deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Iraq.

The spokesperson of Sunak further said that the Prime Minister of England and the President of Ukraine welcomed other international commitments in this field, including Poland’s offer to provide Leopard tanks, in their telephone conversation.

Recently, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken emphasized in a telephone conversation with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister that Washington’s support for Kiev continues and will include advanced defense systems.

According to Fars, the issue that has caused concern to Western officials is that Ukraine has a limited window of time to prepare to repel a possible Russian attack in the spring. This issue has accelerated the efforts of Western countries to send advanced weapons to Ukraine, which previously refused to provide them to Ukrainians for fear of provoking Moscow.

Although Ukraine has been demanding to receive tanks since the beginning of the war, efforts to meet these requests have taken on a serious tone since a few days ago; Especially after the governments of Poland and England publicly demanded a change in the position of the Western alliance. In this regard, Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), confirmed that more heavy weapons will be sent to Ukraine in the near future.
