North Korea attempted to launch its first military reconnaissance satellite on May 31. A week earlier, the militaries of South Korea and the United States conducted their largest-ever live-fire drill within 25 kilometers of the North Korean border.

The Russian news agency Tass reported in this regard that Russia’s deputy representative to the United Nations then expressed surprise that after North Korea’s missile test, the United Nations did not issue any statement on the destructive role of the United States, South Korea, and Japan in Northeast Asia.

The representative of Russia said in this regard: “We listened to the speech of Rosemary DiCarlo, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, and we are surprised that neither today nor in the statement of the Secretary General of the United Nations about the (missile) launch, we heard a word about the fact that the growing military activity of the United States, South Korea and Japan in Northeast Asia have a destructive effect on the situation in this region.

According to this Russian official, the Secretary-General of the United Nations has completely ignored the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, while a neutral position should be adopted in this regard. The Russian Federation has always demanded a comprehensive review of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and a balanced review of all factors affecting it in the Security Council.

“Trying to present a one-sided picture of the events is extremely useless,” Yustigneva said, referring to the contradictory behavior of the United Nations.
