My hair turned white, but they didn’t give permission for my works!
Charso Press: In an interview with ISNA, Jaber Jahid (composer and singer) talks about the problems he encountered in obtaining the license for the album “Music of the Century” from the Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and explains: “Four years ago, while it was two years ago. I had not been able to get the license for the “Music of the Century” album from the Music and Broadcasting Office, Mr. Hamid Ali Askari told me: “If you stay in Iran, we will give you facilities and resources. Just make sure that our teenagers don’t listen to the songs of people like “Tetlo”. I also told Mr. Ali Askari at that time that I will do all the work myself, just give me permission. But it has been 6 years since the music office has not issued the license for my album.
Jahid says about the conditions that occurred to him while obtaining the license for the “Music of the Century” album: To make a spoken word work, the process is that we first get the license for the song and then we go after making the music. Because if the song is not licensed, we will be in trouble. That’s why I have obtained permission for their songs before making my works and then I went to make their music. Anyway, it may take 6 months to 2 years to make music, but when I went to get the music license for the works, they said that the licenses I got for the songs have been revoked. What does it mean? How can a collection whose manager has not changed for several years suddenly change its procedure?
He continues: Although I have corresponded and consulted with the music office many times, I have not been successful in my work. In January of last year, I was also told not to give an interview to any media; Because my problem will be solved within a week, but almost a year has passed since that one week and the situation is still the same. Even when I protest, they say that they are doing me a favor, but I don’t know exactly where this favor of the music office is included in my situation!
Jahid also talks about the problems he has faced in these 6 years: For 6 years, all my work has been delayed and my whole life is under the shadow of their unprofessional behavior. Where should I tell my pain? I haven’t been able to hold a concert for six years. I planned to hold a concert in Kish, which was subject to the permission of the mainland. They disrupt without any reason and do not give permission. My work is stuck in class bureaucracy and no one accepts responsibility. They only give different and false reasons every time and do not give a proper explanation.
He continues: I have spent 200 to 300 million for each of my works; Because the editing of my work is done by my friends, whose salary is also high, but nevertheless, they ask me to make changes in my works every time. But why didn’t they say at the same time what should be changed? This year, if I want to change even one word in my works, I have to pay a high price; Because I made this album five or six years ago and everything has changed since then, from the costs to the software and the studios I worked with.
This artist states that “six years ago I was 31 years old and all my hair has turned white during these years. One day I was telling one of my friends to see how much my face has changed during this time. I suffered a lot in these six years. Since copyright is not respected in Iran, I have to earn money from the stage. During this time, I could go on stage, earn money and produce good works. Who is responsible for these delays?”
He continues: In general, it is difficult for normal people to work in these conditions, let alone me who has visual impairment. Instead of making the way easier for me, they keep throwing stones at my feet. What kind of firewood have I sold to them? I have an invitation from the University of Portland, America, but I will not go; Because I believe I should work in my own country.
