Nader Mashayekhi Music School started

According to the Fars News Agency’s music correspondent, the “Nader Mashayekhi” music school, composer and conductor, started operating. Regardless of copying Western methods in teaching music, the school intends to put on the agenda a new way of teaching music that focuses on “how to learn” instead of “what to learn”, given the cultural context of Iran.

In this regard, the students of this school, in addition to teaching one of the specialized units (composing, conducting orchestra, playing music, etc.), will also have the opportunity to participate in thermal courses. In this way, the student who is trained in specialized fields of music, must also be trained in the fields of salfage and dictation, listening, singing, instrumentation, folk singing, accompaniment, harmony, counterpoint and contemporary music.
Mashayekhi, who has been a staunch critic of music education for many years, from conservatories to free universities and colleges, believes that “students need to be trained in the practice of receiving, interpreting and presenting music in a practical way.” “Receiving music is first and foremost listening, and this issue should be taken seriously in education.”
“This school has also made it possible for students to enroll in only one course, but the main issue is that receiving our school’s final degree is subject to a school-based curriculum,” Mashayekhi added.
The school also has a special curriculum for teaching music to children and adolescents. The method of teaching this age group with the focus on cognitive sciences, in the first place is focused on listening carefully to the sounds of the world around and different music, and then familiarity with different instruments to choose the right instrument for each person.
