Narration of satellite information about the status of Iran’s wetlands/4 wetlands whose area increased 10 times

According to the economic reporter of Fars News Agency, the life of the country’s wetlands has become one of the most important concerns of the country’s people and officials in recent years. In this regard, two factors of changes, climate and parameters such as precipitation and temperature, along with population settlement and human changes, have caused us to witness a change in the state of some wetlands in the country.
* Climatic factors are the determining factor for the life of wetlands in the country
According to the mentioned details, the climatic parameters are considered the main role of the recorded changes in the country’s wetlands. In this regard, Seyyed Shahab Soltani, an expert in the field of water and environment, in an interview with Fars Economic Correspondent, said: Climatic factors such as rainfall and temperature have a significant impact and the evaporation of the water resources of the country’s wetlands, and the warming of the air temperature in recent years in some areas reaches more than 5 degrees compared to the long-term average, it has provided the ground to threaten the life of wetlands.
This expert of the Center for Strategic Environmental Studies, expressing the dependence of the life of wetlands on rainfall, said: The studies conducted in connection with the level and depth of the country’s wetlands show the strong dependence of this issue on climatic statistics, which is causal.
Regardless of the climatic factors, the settlement of population centers in the regions of the country has caused the need for drinking water as well as food to provide a new load for the water resources of the region. In this regard, meeting the mentioned need requires water resources, and this use can reduce the share of wetlands and the environment from the water of a watershed.
*Evacuation of a shadow in the environment of the country
In this regard, Mohammad Pourhamid, an expert in the field of water resources, in an interview with Fars reporter, referring to an important ambiguity in the issue of the life of the country’s wetlands, said: for many years, a part of the body of environmental activists has rejected the construction of dams and the use of water resources management tools. He has introduced the title of threat to wetlands, while this issue is an important and strategic issue in governance.
Explaining the relation of dam construction to the life of wetlands, Pourhamid said: Under any policy or non-policy, a significant population has gathered in an area that needs water. Now, to supply the required water, water resources management tools such as dams should be used instead of resources. To provide water for the population, in fact, the settlement of the population has caused the environmental demand to decrease, and the construction of water resource management tools is not a factor.
This expert in the field of water resources continued: the need of the environment is necessary for the continued survival of a society, but the problem should be looked at realistically and he said, no policy and decision-making will allow the drinking water of a city to be used for the needs of the environment.
* Growth of more than 10 times the size of 4 important wetlands in the country
According to Fars report, the analysis of satellite data by the Center for Strategic Environmental Studies and the analysis of new models for the use of water resources management tools such as dams in the country indicate that in the established systems, provision of environmental rights is a priority after meeting the need for drinking water. It has been placed second, and from now on, all water resources management tools, including the country’s dams, are obliged to provide environmental rights after fully meeting the drinking needs.
Due to this change in the exploitation mechanism as well as the rainfall recorded in the country during the current water year, significant positive changes have been recorded in some of the country’s wetlands.
Based on this, according to the recorded satellite data of 12 important wetlands in the country, it indicates the favorable condition of these wetlands. Based on this, currently, on average, 20% of the wetlands in the country are full of water.
On the other hand, in the past year, according to the measures taken, the amount of water in Arjan-Perishan, Shibmar, Namak Qom and Gavkhoni lakes has grown more than 10 times.
Also, the water area of Bamdej, Shadgan, Maharlo and Miangaran wetlands has increased by 525%, 144.1%, 27.9% and 479.9% respectively.
On the other hand, in the recent period, the level of Anzali, Hoz Sultan, Miankala and Horul Azim wetlands has decreased by 9%, 1.7%, 17.1% and 20.2%, respectively.
According to the mentioned statistics, it seems that the recent rains, along with the new operation mechanism of the country’s dams, have played a special role in reviving some of the country’s most important wetlands, and this is good news for the country’s water space and environment.
