New Canadian sanctions against Russia

According to IRNA, Canada announced other sanctions against Russia, including prominent Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

In all, five of Russia’s top business leaders have been added to the list of those who appear to be backing Russian President Vladimir Putin in the war against Ukraine.

The Canadian federal government also sanctioned 32 organizations and companies related to Russia’s military and security services, including the country’s foreign intelligence service.

The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, who announced new sanctions against Russia on the last day of his European tour, said that the trade of Russian elites in Canada will be stopped and their assets will be frozen.

Abramovich, owner of Chelsea Football Club in the UK, also owns a 28% stake in Evraz, a steel company based in western Canada.

“Sanctions against Russian officials and oligarchies like Abramovich are meant to prevent them from taking advantage of economic activity in Canada,” Trudeau said in Warsaw.
