No currency is allocated for importing mobile phones

The Mobile Importers Association announced the uncertainty of mobile phone importing companies. According to the secretary of this association, since the beginning of June, no currency has been allocated for the import of mobile phones. An issue that can lead to an increase in the price of this essential product with the increase in demand at the end of summer and at the same time as the beginning of the school year.
“Amir Eshaghi”, the secretary of the Mobile Importers Association, in a conversation with Digiato, pointed out the lack of currency allocation needed for the import of mobile phones and said: “Since the beginning of June, no currency allocation has been made for flagship, mid-range and low-range phones.”
According to him, currently, mobile phones are being imported into the country, but only for the goods that have undergone the process of currency allocation before this.
Ishaghi believes that if this story continues, the existing mobile phone storage in the country will not be able to respond to the increase in demand in the last days of summer and the beginning of the new academic year.
He also expressed his lack of knowledge as to why foreign exchange was not allocated for the import of mobile phones.
“Mohammedreza Alian”, the spokesperson of the association, in response to Digiato’s question about whether the foreign exchange action committee has convened a meeting in recent weeks to allocate foreign currency to the import of mobile phones, said that no decision has been made yet and the importing companies are undecided.
In early July, he announced the promise of this committee to hold a meeting and determine the source of foreign currency allocation for the import of phones above 600 dollars.
This is while the statistics show an increase in the import of flagship phones from passenger mode. An issue that the association believes can affect the currency market and the country’s economy; Because the currency of these goods is provided through the free market.
It should be noted that at the beginning of the week, the head of Tehran’s computer technologists’ union announced new restrictions in the technology market and said that the Ministry of Security has set a new ceiling for placing orders for IT items. Based on this, importers can only import laptops, tablets, printers, etc. in the last half of the year.
Although no official official in the government has commented on this, some people consider currency restrictions as one of the possible reasons for not allocating currency to the import of phones and reducing the import of IT goods. An issue that Khabar had previously mentioned with a report on the country’s limited foreign exchange resources and the necessity of not allocating foreign currency to the import of iPhones.
