No layer is added to moon photos

In the last few days, there have been many discussions and controversies about Samsung’s spatial zoom, which is present in the Galaxy S23 Ultra and can be used to photograph the moon, and some have accused the company of cheating. Now this Korean giant has responded to these criticisms in a statement.

A few days ago, a user on Reddit explained in detail why he thinks Samsung’s spatial zoom feature is cheating. He showed that the feature can take a photo of a blurred moon image that has more detail than the source image. Now Samsung in response to these claims to the website TomsGuide has said:

“Samsung is committed to providing the best photography experience in any situation. When a user takes a picture of the moon, AI-powered scene optimization technology recognizes the moon as the main subject and takes multiple shots of it to create a multi-frame composite. Then artificial intelligence increases the quality and color details of the image. This feature does not put any other image layer on top of the original image.

The company claims that users can disable Scene Optimizer so that images are no longer automatically enhanced by artificial intelligence. By doing this, it is possible to produce an image that has the closest appearance to the original subject.

Samsung’s response also clears up doubts about Huawei’s alleged fraud. However, it is not the answer to producing high-quality images from blurry photos. Some users believe that because artificial intelligence helps produce images that may not even exist in reality, it cannot be considered as a real moon photography feature.

In 2020, Samsung first released the spatial zoom feature in the Galaxy S20 Ultra. With the help of a new ISP algorithm that works with artificial intelligence, the company lowers the image noise to get a clearer picture of the moon.
