“Oliver Stone” became the head of judges of the Saudi festival / an Iranian film in the competition

Charso Press: The Saudi “Red Sea” film festival is celebrating its second year, while this year, Oliver Stone, the American director who won three Oscars, who wrote or directed films such as “Scarface”, “Wall Street”, “Midnight Express”, ” Playton”, “Born on the 4th of July” and “Innate Killers” in his portfolio, will be at the head of the jury for the main competition of this film event.

The “Red Sea” film festival, which has been associated with Saudi Arabia’s significant investment in cinema in recent years, will screen a total of 131 short and long films from 61 countries and in 41 languages ​​from emerging and established filmmakers.

This year, Iranian cinema is present in the main competition section of the Red Sea Festival with the film “Sonsoz” directed by Reza Jamali. This comedy film, which will be screened in the world premiere in the critics’ selected section of the Tallinn Black Nights Festival, is the story of a small village where a child has not been born in a while, and all the men consider it the women’s fault. Two decades ago, Kazem, a veteran filmmaker, came to this remote rural village to make a documentary about the sterility of village women. But the village women wanted to protect their dignity, so they stole the film and burned it, but today the villagers have realized that the men are sterile and the women have no problem. With the help of his assistant, Kazem tries to record some interviews with infertile men in order to reveal the truth in a new film, but in many ways it becomes an impossible mission.

The second edition of the Red Sea Film Festival will be held from December 1 to 10 (December 10 to 19) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
