An Israeli Foreign Ministry official claimed that Oman would probably be the next Arab country to normalize relations with the regime.
According to Sputnik, quoting ISNA, the head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Middle East Affairs and Peace Process, Aliaf Benjamin, in a short interview with the international media, while emphasizing that the country had an official delegation in Muscat in the past, which was formed after the Oslo Accords. : Oman is probably the next Arab country to normalize relations with Israel.
“Israel is also involved in a hydraulic cooperation project with Oman and Jordan. After welcoming the signing of the normalization agreements reached last year, Oman is described as one of the countries that is probably ready to establish diplomatic relations with Israel,” Benjamin said. .
The Israeli official added: “Israel has talked to all the countries in the region in the Middle East and North Africa, and all of them, especially Oman, with whom we have worked, must determine their proper timing and how to implement this issue.”
Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Muscat in 2018 after two decades as the first high-ranking Israeli official to meet with Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed Al Saeed, the late King of Oman.
But Oman’s foreign minister, Badr al-Busaidi, said last July that Oman would not be the third Gulf state (after the UAE and Bahrain) to normalize relations with Israel until the Palestinians reach their country.
“Israel is seeking to sign agreements with some countries, the names of which it cannot disclose at this time,” Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Tuesday evening.
Lapid added: “This is being done with the help of the United States and our friends in Bahrain, Morocco and the UAE, where we have opened our embassies in recent months, and the issue of Palestine is still on the political agenda.”
