Opening of the world’s largest open-air museum in Egypt + film

According to the visual correspondent of Fars News Agency, the opening of the 2700-meter route “Al-Kabash” has been praised by the Egyptian domestic and foreign media, because this road is a manifestation of the greatness of the ancient Egyptians. A historical route dating back more than 3,000 years has connected the Temple of Luxor to the Temple of Karnak. It is the world’s oldest archeological site and the largest open-air museum in the world, displaying more than 100,000 artifacts.

Along this route, there are more than 1050 statues of sphinxes and rams, hence the name “Al-Kabash” (rams) route. The most important feature of this project since its discovery about 70 years ago is that it is an all-Egyptian project without any foreign participation or intervention.

The “Great Museum of Egypt” was originally scheduled to open in 2018, but its opening was delayed for various reasons, including the outbreak of the Corona virus. When completed, the new Egyptian Museum will be the largest museum in the world. Previously, it was decided that the Grand Museum would be ready for the arrival of guests gradually and in several stages; But now the authorities have decided to open the whole museum at once in one big ceremony.

The Grand Museum of Egypt is located near the Pyramid of Giza on the outskirts of the Egyptian capital and is expected to display more than 100,000 antiquities. Many of these artifacts have never been on public display before.

* A 26-meter suspended obelisk

The first thing a visitor sees when entering the museum is the 26-meter-high Hanging Obelisk of Ramses the Great (the greatest pharaoh of the New Egyptian Empire), which is more than 3,000 years old. The obelisk is a tall square pillar with a pyramidal tip that was usually placed in front of each Egyptian temple in pairs. The obelisk has been a symbol of Masonry and evil in recent centuries.

Then the main hall with an area of 22,000 square meters and includes 12,000 antiquities. The section also includes a children’s museum that explains the history of Egyptian civilization, and includes workshops for children on Egyptian civilization and education on Egyptian civilization.

The right side of the entrance also includes two halls with an area of more than 7200 meters, which houses the treasures of Tutankhamun (the eleventh pharaoh of Egypt) for the first time in history.

Al-Kabash Road (the way of the rams) illuminates the way of tourists at night with dazzling and beautiful lights. During the day, any tourist who wishes will be given an umbrella to protect him from direct sunlight.

* The reason for naming the route of rams

The museum was inaugurated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Annani, some foreign ambassadors and a number of Egyptian and non-Egyptian cultural and artistic figures.

The Egyptian Minister of Tourism said at the opening ceremony of the museum, which was broadcast live on some TV and satellite channels: “The opening of this old and ancient route will turn the city of Luxor into an open-air museum; A city where nearly 2 million people work in the tourism sector and about 10% of the gross national income is provided by the presence of tourists.

“Tariq al-Kabash” is a path that connects several temples, including the temples of Luxor and Karnak, and on both sides there are statues with the body of a lion and the head of a ram. That is why it is known as “Tariq al-Kabash” (the way of rams). Of course, it is also called Abolhol Street.

* Complete exploration after 70 Year

Part of Sphinx Street in the city of Luxor was discovered in 1949. Archaeologists in the following decades also discovered other sections related to this street and by connecting these sections together, they created the al-Kabash route.

Reconstruction of the ancient route began in 2005, but was halted several times due to financial problems as well as political unrest in Egypt, until it was finally completed some time ago and reopened on Thursday night, November 25, 2021.

The opening ceremony, which was held at a great cost and with special splendor, and hundreds of Egyptian artists were hired. Pharaonic chariots and other symbols of ancient Egypt were used in this event. The opening music was also based on hieroglyphic stories written on the walls of the temple.

* Egypt’s efforts to complete half-finished projects

The Egyptian government and its president, Mr. Sisi, have shown great interest in completing semi-finished projects related to Egyptian antiquities and attracting tourists during his second term, and it has been successful so far. It should be noted that a large part of the budget Egypt is dependent on the tourism industry, and its annual revenue from tourism in the five years leading up to 2018 averaged about $ 15 billion annually.

Also, according to some statistics provided about the Egyptian tourism industry, the jobs and income of more than 10 million Egyptians depend on the prosperity of this industry in Egypt. The industry showed good growth before the events of 2011 and the fall of Hosni Mubarak, but it suffered severely during the two periods of “Egyptian developments in 2011-2014” and “Corona emissions in 2019 and 2020”.

Currently, the Egyptian government is trying to attract the attention of tourists once again by completing some semi-finished projects related to the country’s antiquities and then opening them gloriously, along with the live broadcast of the opening ceremony. Increase the route. The Egyptian government has been able to provide security for tourists in this regard as well, with very good control of coronary heart disease.

A film from Egypt’s largest open-air museum and “The Way of Al-Kabash”

Last year, Egyptian officials organized a grand parade to transfer the bodies of 18 kings and four queens, 7 km from the Egyptian Museum (near Cairo’s Tahrir Square) to the National Museum of Civilization, during a ceremony called the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade. This ceremony is live from Egyptian television aired and received worldwide coverage.
