“Orange Forest”, a simple and spectacular film condemning false intellectualism

Fars News Agency – Cinema Group – Sajjad Rezaei Moghadam: For several years, the social type of Iranian cinema films has achieved relative success, from the success at the box office to the participation in various festivals, this shows the bright spot in Iranian social cinema.

Among the topics that are made in this kind of cinema, there are many works that maybe with messy and dirty locations or even with the continuous riots of the characters of the film, they intend to show various social problems, we can even say that most of their works are microscopic. They put it on an external problem and look at social examples.

“The Orange Forest”, the first work of Iman Khansarian, is perhaps one of the few works that has chosen an internal narrative in the genre of social melodramas, a film that was produced by Rasul Sadr Aamili, and his work is remembered in all the sequences. Maybe even the attitude that Khansarian had in “Orange Forest” as Sara Bahrami, a girl suffering from social adversities, was borrowed from Sadr Aamili’s works for girls.

Starting with a mandatory trip

The story begins with the compulsion of Sohrab Baharian, the compulsion that takes him away from the safe corner he built for himself in a school, so that Baharian meets himself and of course an old love on a trip to his school.

Of course, “The Orange Forest” is not just a story of an old love, it is a story of self-improvement and the breaking of pride and arrogance. The main character of the film slowly and step by step breaks the false beliefs that he has built for himself in these years.

In some sequences, the actor appears in the role of a caring teacher, Baharian’s fate starts from being the first student of the university and reaches the point where after 15 years since his student days, his weakest classmate (Hejir) has become a household name and staged his plays. . Showing the reasons for this incident and of course the type of confrontation of the main character of the story with it is teaching “Orange Forest” to the audience.

A look at the quality of the work, from the characters to the story

Perhaps the most important feature of “Orange Forest” is its characterization. The main character, with a very good and believable performance by Mir Saeed Molvyan, was introduced to the audience in a way that can be predicted in any position, Sara Bahrami’s performance and her character are no exception to this story.

Although perhaps some things are used to introduce the main characters, for example, the character of Hajir, which we talked about earlier, is a good story element to show the main character of the story, but his character is never revealed to the audience and is not even seen.

If we are going to criticize the story; It can be said that some sequences may be extra and do not advance the story of the film, for example, at the beginning of Sohrab’s arrival to the north of Tehran and the destination city, he enters a place owned by Reza Behbodhi to rent a house. The whole story of this house is supposed to show aspects of Sohrab Baharian’s personality, but in fact, it does not add anything to the story, as if the story stops for a few minutes.

Another important point of the “Orange Forest” script is the correct use of signs, signs that both serve the characterization of the story and help advance the story of the film.

For example, we can mention Baharian’s insistence on using a hair cover, which prevents this character’s falling hair from being visible and shows his lack of self-confidence. It is scratched to indicate change.

The end of the movie

Perhaps the most brilliant sequence of the film is its ending, where it shows Baharian letting go of all his attachments, throwing away his degree, going to the mountains in his favorite car to get a new experience, and having shaved his hair.

Perhaps there are events throughout the film that need more attention, for example one of the main events of the story and the fight that Sara Bahrami has with Mir Saeed Molvyan ends easily, the 15-year-old hatred of the character played by Sara Bahrami has caused So that he forgets himself, but all these hardships are easily solved, the character that Mirsaid Moulyan takes on does not make much effort to be forgiven, and he ends up with only a box of sweets and of course a gramophone record. Although we know that the main reason for this forgiveness is the change in Baharian’s personality.

In the end, it must be said that “The Orange Forest” is a defensible film that, with all its pretentiousness, is more honorable than many pretentious films in the cinema. It can even be said that the weaknesses of Khansarian’s first feature film are much less than its strengths.
