Our theater posters are no longer indigenous / one should not expect information from posters alone

Ghobad Shiva, Farzad Adibi and Amir Asmi, who judged the posters of the 40th Fajr Davari Theater Festival, say that the posters of this event are the showcase of the country’s theater.
Theater News Base: This year, the Fajr International Theater Festival Competition and Exhibition will be held, as in previous years, with the aim of helping to improve the quality of theater poster design and accompanying theater and visual artists. The competition will be judged by Ghobad Shiva, Farzad Adibi and Amir Asmi. On the eve of the festival, in conversation with the judges, we asked for the artistic and technical characteristics of the posters of the 40th Fajr Theater Festival, the function of the theater poster, and so on.
«Ghobad ShivaOne of the judges of the poster section of this period of the festival says about the characteristics of these works: Due to the diversity that we have in the poster section, we were faced with numerous and varied works in this period.
Each country’s theater poster must have its own indigenous components
He continues: “As a designer, I have always believed that posters designed by graphic artists of any land should take into account the indigenous component.” I have a strange prejudice against being Iranian, and unfortunately I have to say that in the works I judged during this period, the characteristic of being Iranian was slightly reflected in them.
“Today, most graphic designers create their own posters with digital tools and applications, and unfortunately they no longer have the means to create the work manually,” says Shiva. Was.
The dominance of technology over graphics reduces the freshness of the works
The veteran graphic artist, referring to the colorful and influential presence of technology in the field of graphics, says: “This issue has a side effect on the graphics of a land and reduces the feeling and freshness of work.”
“This is one of the strengths and distinctions of Polish posters,” says Shiva, noting that most posters created by Polish graphic artists are still hand-made.
The veteran graphic artist continues: I have a particular view of the poster and its artistic values, and I must say that unfortunately in this period; The number of posters that could enter the archive as a work of art was small.
Today, the information aspect of theater posters has diminished
«Farzad AdibiAnother judge of the poster section of the 40th Fajr Theater Festival, referring to the variety of works participating in the event, says: “Due to the diverse tastes of graphic designers, the selection committee tried to make this issue reflected in the works submitted to the exhibition.”
He points out that the function of posters has changed: “Given that the information aspect of theater posters has decreased today and other mediums have been introduced in this field and have been used by the theater, there should be a change in the prevalence of theater posters.” For example, today it is no longer necessary to include all the information of the performances on the poster, because some of this information can be included in the brochure, the personal page of the performance and the group site.
The information on the poster should be very legible
The graphic artist continues: In the posters that participated in this period of the festival, less attention was paid to the above issue, and in most of the posters, due to the large amount of information, the designer could not implement his idea properly, although there are exceptions. Had. Also, in some cases, the information contained in the posters was illegible.
According to Adibi; The most important feature of the poster is that the information on it should be read at first glance, but unfortunately in many posters we have encountered the problem of being read; If we are going to create a work of art, it is better to work in another branch of graphic art.
Corona also reduced the number of theatrical posters
«Amir AsmiIs also one of the artists who studied the posters of theaters in the 40th Fajr International Theater Festival; He talks about the characteristics of the posters of this period: due to the prevalence of coronary heart disease; During this period, the number of performances and, consequently, theater posters was low, and in this period of the festival, this issue is well evident. However, good works found their way into this period of the festival.
He continues: “Different facilities should be used for the benefit of the theater, and the clients and creators of the poster should pay attention to this point. The poster is not the only place that can be used to provide information about the details of a play.” This greatly affects our poster design.
The judge of the poster section points out that there is a lot of information on the posters: the presence of different and varied information in a poster makes it impossible for a designer to execute the design well.
Like Adibi, he points out the problem of how to insert information on posters and adds: The most important feature of the poster is that the information on it must be read at first glance, but unfortunately in many posters we have had difficulty reading.
It should be noted that the 40th Fajr International Theater Festival will be held from February 5 to 6 under the auspices of Hossein Mosafer Astaneh, and an exhibition of selected posters will also be held during this period.
