Paris five-way meeting; Saving Lebanon or drawing a road map for civil war

According to Fars International News Agency, on Monday (tomorrow, January 6), Paris is scheduled to host a meeting of representatives of five world countries, including the United States of America, France, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and possibly Egypt, in order to create a road map to exit from Lebanon’s crisis and determining the characteristics of the country’s new president to end the current political vacuum following the end of the presidency of “Michel Aoun” on October 1.
While the meetings to elect a new president for Lebanon have been suspended in this country due to the political parties not agreeing on an option, some eyes are on tomorrow’s meeting in Paris regarding the Lebanon case.
It is likely that in this meeting, some names that are close to the characteristics considered by the international community and Arab countries will be considered for the presidency of Lebanon.
At the same time, some circles in Beirut reduce the importance of the political dimension of the Paris meeting and say that this meeting has a human dimension and will be held in order to examine how to provide economic assistance to Lebanon. But “Catherine Clooney”, the French Foreign Minister, during her visit to Saudi Arabia, clearly stated that the purpose of holding this meeting is to put pressure on the Lebanese political class and end the crisis of the presidential vacuum in this country.
The parties participating in the Paris meeting claim that they are holding this meeting in light of the growing concern over the deterioration of the financial, economic and livelihood situation in Lebanon and the irregular activity of various institutions in light of the vacancy of the presidency.
In its editorial, the trans-regional newspaper “Rai Elyoum” raised some thought-provoking questions by focusing on this meeting and wrote: Will the five-party meeting on Monday in Paris be held to save Lebanon or create a road map for the explosion of a civil war? Who gave these countries the right to determine the characteristics of the new president of Lebanon and impose it on the parliament of this country? Why is the occupying regime an absent member of this meeting?
In the introduction of the editorial of this newspaper, it is stated: “Until this moment, these countries and the countries supporting the holding of this meeting have not presented a road map, nor have they revealed their desirable characteristics in the new president of Lebanon. But it is certain that their characteristics and desirable characteristics are completely in conflict with the things that Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah and his allies, namely the Amal Movement, Al-Tayar al-Watani al-Harr, al-Murda, etc., have specified in the Lebanese arena.
According to this memo, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah says that Hezbollah does not want a president who stabs the resistance in the back, can be bought and sold, and takes his orders from the American embassy in Beirut. He emphasized these conditions in his speeches. In the meantime, news was also published that showed that most of these specifications are approved by Mr. Suleiman Franjieh, the leader of al-Murdeh party, and it is certain that these specifications and conditions will be unanimously rejected at the Paris meeting.
The author further explains: “The opposite parliamentary faction, which is led by Samir Geagea, the commander of the Lebanese Forces party, nominated Michel Mouawad, the son of the former president of Lebanon, as a candidate for the post of president, but in more than 15 years, he The parliament meeting failed to get the required votes, and now reports are being published about the name of General Joseph Aoun, the army commander, as the third option with the support of the countries present at the Paris meeting on Monday.
According to the author, Lebanon is a democratic country, and no one doubts the transparency of this, and so far the results of the ballot boxes have not been questioned, although there are doubts about most of the political leaders who control the various parties and the Lebanese Parliament. . President Emmanuel Macron, who emphasizes the need to change these leaders; He and his country provide the most support to these political leaders who have established themselves in power and dominate the parties and the political and economic process of the country during the past decades.
Elium’s editorial continued: “We fear that the road map presented by the Paris meeting on Monday is not to save Lebanon, but to bring it into a civil war; It supports sectarian divisions and favors one group against another, and the opposite group is the resistance bloc led by Hezbollah, which is on the lists of terrorist organizations in the United States and most European countries.
The author further clarified: “We do not know who gave these five countries the right to choose the president of Lebanon based on their desired characteristics, and this right to the Lebanese Parliament and its representatives, which was given by the people in an election that no one doubted the transparency of holding. It is not handed over. If these countries really believe in democracy as they claim.
According to the author, the election of the president of Lebanon is done through the free vote of parliament members with internal consensus, between all or most parties and through secret voting, so why do they want to break this rule in the Paris meeting and impose something else? Imposing the president based on the desirable characteristics of the five participating countries and not the desirable characteristics of the majority of Lebanese?
In the continuation of this note, it is stated: “All the actions taken against Lebanon from the siege, hunger, humiliation and economic and financial collapse that this country has been facing for years, with the aim of pushing this country towards a civil war that will lead to disarmament. to be resisted, it has been done”.
The author further considers it unlikely that in the shadow of the war in Ukraine, the recent unsuccessful attack by the Zionist regime on a workshop complex of the Ministry of Defense of Iran in Isfahan and other developments in the region, this siege against Lebanon will be intensified.
At the end of this note, it is stated: “We and many others, in Lebanon and the region, will follow this five-party meeting with fear and trembling, and we doubt what the attendees will do for Lebanon, whose representatives, or at least, most of its representatives in Those who are absent from this meeting will prepare. At the same time, since the United States called for it and led it, it is not reassuring, and it is even worrying… and we just have to wait.”
End of message.
