Agreement on the government’s withdrawal from the car industry

The Islamic Consultative Assembly these days, in addition to trying to liberalize car imports, is apparently also pursuing the privatization of car manufacturers.

As the head of the Economic Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly stated in an interview with the House of Nation, agreements have been reached with the Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade on changing the ownership structure of automakers.

Mohammad Reza Poorabrahimi, stating that the CEOs of the automobile industries, instead of responding to the shareholders and the assembly, have to answer to the Minister of Silence, says: As long as this situation continues, there can be no hope of improving the situation in the automotive industry. He emphasized: Therefore, it was agreed with the Minister of Silence to return all the powers and decisions of the assemblies of car companies to the shareholders within a period of maximum 2 years.

According to Pour-Ebrahimi, the purpose of this measure is for companies to be able to make decisions in the ownership structure and avoid uneconomic actions. He also said that the government currently manages these companies, despite its small share in the car industry, while according to Article 44 of the Constitution, Iran, Khodro and Saipa, given that most of their shares are outside the government’s control, must be governed by non-governmental organizations. Governments should be governed.

The remarks of the chairman of the economic commission of the parliament can be considered as a new tactic in the management of the two major automakers of the country and the key to getting them out of the shadow of government decisions. Of course, this issue is currently in agreement and we have to wait and see if in practice the government will be willing to hand over the car industry to non-governmental shareholders.
