Pelosi: New sanctions will be imposed on Russia in the event of an attack on Ukraine

“Sanctions should be much stronger than they used to be because we are talking about invading a country,” Pelosi told IRNA on Thursday, according to IRNA.
“NATO countries are at risk if the Russians succeed in Ukraine,” Pelosi said. “So they have to feel the pain with the new sanctions.”
“No one but Putin knows what he’s going to do, so we have to be prepared for anything,” he said.
Some congressional lawmakers, most of them Republicans, have called on the government to impose precautionary sanctions on Moscow. They argue that this is an effective deterrent to Russia’s initial attack.
But Pelosi rejected the strategy on Thursday, stating that any new restrictions should apply only in the event of an attack and not before.
The speaker also rejected the notion that Biden would need congressional approval in the form of a special resolution to send US troops to Europe to counter Putin’s aggression.
