Protest gathering of Iraqi citizens in front of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad + video

According to the report of the international group of Fars news agency, hundreds of Iraqi citizens held a protest rally in front of the country’s embassy in Baghdad, condemning the burning of the Holy Quran in front of a mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

Shafaq news agency reported that these people protested in Al-Salahiya area in the center of Baghdad and demanded the expulsion of the Swedish ambassador. Currently, the number of protesters is increasing, and some news sources, including the Ahed news channel, reported that Iraqi citizens entered the Swedish embassy building.

Ahed also informed that the staff of the Swedish embassy also left the embassy due to the fear of the protesters. Meanwhile, the official news agency of Iraq and other official sources have not confirmed the escape of the Swedish embassy staff.

Yesterday, a refugee in Sweden tore the Quran and set it on fire. The Swedish police had previously said that there will be a demonstration in which people intend to burn the Holy Quran outside the Stockholm mosque at the same time as Eid al-Adha.

The green light for this heinous crime was issued by the Swedish Court of Appeal. Two weeks ago, the Swedish police said that two demonstrations were to be held in Stockholm, in which the Holy Quran would be set on fire, and that the police were against issuing a permit for these demonstrations, but the aforementioned court rejected the request of the police.

Bassem Al-Awadi, the spokesman of the Iraqi government, strongly condemned this action, which was carried out by a citizen of this country. Al-Awadi stated that this act was done only by those who are mentally ill, and said that this crime has hurt the feelings of millions of Muslims.

He stated that European governments allow such crimes to take place under the pretext of freedom of speech, and emphasized that these actions are a form of racism and encouragement to violence. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also said that the Swedish authorities allowed this person to commit this crime and thus committed a great insult to religious sanctities.
