Protests over coronary restrictions in Belgium escalated into violence

Thousands of Belgians took to the streets of the capital Brussels on Sunday to protest the escalation of social restrictions caused by the coronavirus, according to Fars News Agency’s International Group.

According to the Associated Press, angry protesters set fire to trash cans and threw objects at police, while security forces used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.

According to the report, the protesters shouted “Freedom, Freedom!”

At least 40 people were arrested and at least four others were injured in Sunday’s clashes, three of them police, said Belgian police spokeswoman Ilse Wende.

The Brussels government has made masking mandatory for people over the age of ten, with employees having to work 4 out of 5 working days from home and taking corona tests to enter nightclubs, CNBC reported on the Belgian government’s imposition of corona restrictions.

Belgium has also made vaccination mandatory for healthcare workers, and those who refuse to be vaccinated will be at risk of being suspended.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus has risen again in Europe, and Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France and Belgium are now facing a new wave of coronavirus outbreaks.

In recent days, people in the Netherlands and Germany have taken to the streets to protest government restrictions on the corona, which has led to clashes with police.

According to Johns Hopkins University, three out of four Belgians have been fully vaccinated, but the country is seeing an increase in cases.

In recent days, Belgium has registered about 20,000 coroners daily.
