Psychoanalysis of “Zigmund” in the way of free association/getting lost in the labyrinth of the unconscious

Mehrdad Kuroshnia, the designer and director of the “Zigmund” show, said that in this play he has dealt with the dramatic aspects of Freud’s life.
Charso Press: Mehrdad Koroshnia, the writer, designer and director of the play “Zigmund”, who is currently on stage at the Iranshahr Theater’s Tahrajyan Hall, talks about Freud’s life in this play. Mehr reporter He said: In the production of works that are made from the life of an artist, there is a more common word in Iran called “portrait” or biography in the way that when they want to introduce a well-known character to the audience, from the dates of his birth and death, his life style. They talk about where he came from and where he came from, while I believe that this type of introduction of a character is not the task of theater and drama at all, because for this purpose, you can refer to the Wikipedia of the person in question.
He continued: The task of the theater is to narrate the dramatic situations of people, now if this person is a more prominent and higher person and has experienced more ups and downs in his life, this document can be used and also an important character in the history of mankind. examined and expressed the contradictions and contradictions and problems of this character’s life.
Koroshnia explained about dealing with the dramatic parts of Freud’s life: Freud is one of the characters in whose life these dramatic situations are many. He started working in a period when there was still something called psychoanalysis in the world. Therefore, Freud is known as the founder of psychoanalysis and theoretician of this field and attracts the eyes of the world to this category. Also, Freud’s life coincides with World War I and II. The beginning of the war coincides with the issue of racism and anti-Semitism, which is another dramatic part of Freud’s life. The consequences of the war, the capture of his sisters by the Nazis, advanced cancer and the unbearable pain that Freud was experiencing led him to commit suicide, which happened with his daughter, and in this show we also see the last 2 days of Freud’s life. We have paid when he commits suicide and goes into a coma. According to Freud’s theories, when you are in a coma, you are fluid in your subconscious mind, and we have depicted this same fluidity in a surreal and expressionist atmosphere.
The director of the show “The Last Letter” reminded: Another noteworthy point in Freud’s life is that during his career, he put forward theories that violate most of them in his personal life, like all of us humans who in life We may not stick to what we believe. Dr. Mohammadreza Sargolzaei, who is one of the country’s well-known psychologists, emphasized in a note he wrote about this play that “the play “Sigmund” is about how Freud himself is a prisoner of debilitating internal conflicts and how someone who tried to decipher the world Unconsciously, he is lost in the labyrinth of his own unconscious. This is not the story of Freud, it is the story of human tragedy, the story of each one of us.” This analysis is the main concept and summary of our show.
Referring to the contradiction of some of Freud’s theories over time, he stated: Even after the passage of time, some other psychoanalysts and theorists such as Jung and Adler, violated Freud’s theories, as an example of a major part of the theory of sexual motivations of behavior and even the Oedipus complex. and Electra have been abandoned over time and I myself do not accept them because I have researched in the field of personality for years. In this show, we addressed these issues and acted in our own Freudian way, considering the atmosphere of “free association”. In our show, we depict 7 situations in Freud’s life; Facing the beloved, facing oneself, facing one’s own religion and beliefs, facing the family; His sister and mother, facing work and finally facing one of his important theories which is the Oedipus complex and the Electra complex and at the end of his face with death, in all these situations we acted in the way of “free association”, but this time the people of life. Freud has questions for him and he himself should answer them.
He said about the characters of the show: Farzin Mohhadd plays the role of Freud in a constant manner, and Shahrouz Del Afkar and Yalda Abbasi play the role of Dr. Freud and his daughter Anna, who are by his side at the moment of death, and then different people in life. They evoke him in his mind.
Kurosh Nia said about the stage design and stage design of the show: Our approach in stage design and stage design is minimal, but at the same time, we had a lot of difficulties in designing the decor because, for example, we recreated Freud’s chair and coffin exactly, hence the cost and trouble. It was for us. Because this chair was brought by Freud from Egypt, and if you look at it from the front, it evokes the awe of a man sitting in front, so we have recreated the same chair. Since the space of psychoanalysis is the space of listening, we also thought of a provision in the show where the voices can be heard in Dolby. It cost us as much as the money of a theater and it took a month to sound. The audience hears the sounds of the show from 5 different directions, which I think is rarely experienced in Iranian theater.
At the end of his speech, he noted: The duration of this play is 65 minutes, which is attractive to the audience because we tried to have variety and everything in its place. I can say that in my 20 years of experience, this show is the most accurate work I have done. In this show, the audience both reviews the history of psychoanalysis to some extent and witnesses the dramatic part of Freud’s life in a surrealistic way, which is depicted with the help of video projection, Dolby system, detailed stage and costume design, and attractive games.
The play “Zigmond” is on stage until September 31 every night at 21:00 in Iranshahr Theater Hall.
