Qatari Foreign Minister leaves for Moscow – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

A source familiar with the matter said that Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani intended to visit Moscow, Mehr news agency reported, quoting Reuters.

The trip is said to be scheduled for Sunday, with the aim of discussing issues surrounding the Vienna talks as well as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Yesterday, the Qatari foreign minister and his American counterpart had a telephone conversation, and Ukraine, the nuclear issue of Iran and Afghanistan were among the topics discussed between them.

The eighth round of the Vienna talks is currently taking a breather, while EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell claims the pause is the product of external factors.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “we want to ensure that these anti-Russian sanctions do not in any way affect trade-economic relations and investment in the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (CJAP).”

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh says a halt to the Vienna talks could pave the way for resolving the remaining issues and a final return to the nuclear deal.
