Re-election of Iran’s representative in the Executive Council of the United Nations


According to the economic reporter of Fars News Agency, a few minutes ago, at the 79th meeting of the Administrative Committee of the Arrow Convention in Geneva, Switzerland, Mustafa Aiti, representative of the Customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the heavy election atmosphere, with the efforts and cooperation of the Customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chamber Iran Commerce was elected as a member of the Executive Council of the United Nations for the fourth consecutive round with the consensus of the members of the Tire Convention.

The Tire Convention is one of the most important international instruments regarding the international transportation and transit of goods among the member countries covered by international tire insurance and plays a very important role in the development of transit and trade at the international level. This convention has 77 members, including The big economies of the world are China, European Union, America, India, Russia and others.

The Executive Council of Tire is the most important decision-making arm of the United Nations Tire Convention, consisting of 7 experts from member countries who are elected by consensus for a 2-year term. After 46 years of membership in this convention, the Islamic Republic of Iran became a member of this council for the first time in 1995 with the election of Mustafa Aiti, and due to his effective and active presence, for the fourth time in a row, together with the representatives of the European Union, Austria, Holland, Italy, Turkey and Uzbekistan won the votes of the members of the convention.

In this round of elections, the representative of Russia failed to get the necessary votes for the first time.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is the first user of the TIR card in the world, and the presence of our country’s representative at the highest level of this convention will play an important role in the development of transit in the country and the region.

Considering the geographical location of the country and being in the important east-west, north-south corridors, participation in international forums is one of the opportunities that can be used to develop regional trade and increase exports and transit services of the country.

It is worth mentioning that the customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken effective steps in the development of transit and transit in recent years by implementing electronic beam projects with Turkey and Azerbaijan and also developing combined transport in the corridors of Sloane-Iran, Kata (India-Iran-Central Asia). Facilitation of regional trade has been removed.
