Reducing the water tariff, the low-consumers/high-consumer minority face an increase in water prices


According to Fars news agency, quoting the water resources management news site, Firoz Ghasemzadeh, the spokesperson of the water industry, said: “Drinking water tariffs for customers who consume up to half of the model have decreased compared to last year, which is an encouraging measure for those who consume less.”

He added: For subscribers who consume water from half the standard to the standard, they will have a 15% tariff increase this year.

The spokesperson of the water industry stated that the tariff will be different for each cubic meter of consumption, and said: For customers who consume more water than the model, a 70% tariff increase will be applied, and this 70% tariff increase is for heavy users. He added that the country’s rainfall in the current water year has decreased by 16% compared to the long-term average, despite a 5% increase compared to the amount of rains at the same time of the last water year.

Qasimzadeh stated that “rainfalls of the current water year have reached 188 mm so far”, he said: “The distribution of rainfall is very irregular and we have not had adequate rainfall in the northwest of the country, the northern provinces and part of the central plateau.”

He continued: In Tehran, we are facing a 28% decrease in rainfall compared to normal conditions and a 6% decrease in rainfall compared to the same period last year. Also, the amount of reserves of the 5 dams of Tehran’s drinking water supply is currently 509 million cubic meters, which shows the filling of 27% of these dams, and compared to the same time last year, which was a water-scarce year for Tehran, it has decreased by 10%.

The spokesperson of the water industry stated that last year the water supply of 43,000 subscribers was cut off and this year we have this plan as well, and said: the number of subscribers who do not consume water decreased from five percent to three percent with the implementation of the plan and our effort is to increase the number High consumption subscribers will decrease again.
