Reduction of French electricity production with the strike of the employees of the electricity company

Statistics from the French Electricity Company (EDF) released today show that the strike by the company’s workers has reduced France’s nuclear and hydroelectric power generation by 2.5 gigawatts.

The company announced that 37.2% of its total workforce went on strike by noon on Wednesday.

According to the statistics, five reactors are operating due to the strike with limited capacity, and France’s hydropower production has also been affected, which means a reduction of about 2.9 percent in the country’s electricity production.

Employees of the French power company began their protests on Sunday over the government’s plan to increase sales of cheap electricity to the company’s competitors at a lower price than the market price, and demanded an increase in salaries and pensions.

Statistics from the Grid Operator (RTE) show that France’s nuclear power generation has reached 49.3 GW.

According to these statistics, France is expected to become a net importer of electricity during the day.
