Renault 5 became electric after half a century

According to New Atlas, Renault 5 car production started in 1972 and its production continued until 1996. Now, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the production of this car, Renault has launched an electric model of it.

According to the online economy report, quoted by Fars, this car is called Renault 5 Diamant and its production is the result of collaboration between Renault company and a French designer named Pierre Gnalons. According to Architectural Digest, he is one of the top 100 French designers.

Although few technical specifications have been provided, we do know that the product will be powered by an electric motor located at the front, where the internal combustion engine is traditionally installed. The driver accesses the vehicle via an external fingerprint scanner, then uses a three-position sequential lever to switch between forward, neutral and reverse driving modes.

Speed, battery charge and time are displayed on three separate round digital screens. The car lacks a touchscreen for accessing navigation and entertainment information, instead displaying such data on the driver’s smartphone, which is mounted in a dedicated mount on the dashboard. This car is supposed to be released in the next few months.
