Request of 25 members of the US Congress to prevent the lifting of sanctions on Iran – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

In a letter to US President Joe Biden, 25 Republicans in the US Congress have stated their commitment to prevent the lifting of sanctions on Iran.
The letter accused the White House of hiding information from Congress and ignoring requests for details about the nature of negotiations with Iran.
“Despite more than a dozen letters from members of the Republican Studies Committee requesting information on how to implement sanctions on Iran, your administration has left Congress in the dark about its plans to weaken sanctions and reduce sanctions against Iran,” the letter said.
The committee has more than 150 Republican members and advocates for conservative defense and foreign policy policies.
In this letter, the signatories reaffirm the power of Congress to impose sanctions on Iran.
“We are writing to remind you that Congress has the power to regulate foreign trade and, consequently, the ability to impose economic sanctions,” the letter added.
Republican signatories to the letter said they would block the lifting of sanctions against Iran if they won a majority in the House of Representatives in next year’s midterm elections.
The Vienna talks, meanwhile, began in the Austrian capital on Monday, with Iran announcing that the aim of the talks was to lift sanctions.
