Researchers’ thinking on the second day of the Iranian Regional Music Festival

According to the Fars News Agency’s music correspondent, the first research meeting of the 14th Iranian Regional Music Festival was held on the morning of October 20, with the presence of a group of artists and researchers at the Pars Hotel in Kerman.
Mohammad Ali Marati (Festival Secretary) said in a speech at the beginning of the meeting: “Today’s research meeting is about the three axes of tradition, originality and intra-ethnic and extra-ethnic creations in Iranian ethnic music.”
He continued: “We in the folklore of musicology have a great deal to do with the concept of originality, and intra-ethnic and extra-ethnic creation is also a debate that arises in the meantime.” On the other hand, tradition is a concept that arises with general acceptance and loyalty to itself and is a change in its nature.
The secretary of the festival added: “We consider originality as a kind of meter and criterion for not harming this music.” Impulse is collective. We consider originality as a factor in the process of creating nations based on tribes.
Marati also explained about the axis of intra-ethnic and extra-ethnic creation: “This axis means that tradition is not static and is always dynamic and is based on the behavior and needs of the people and sometimes the relationship between people.” Just as a nation has an independent musical identity. It is an indicator in every ethnic group. Like the daf, which was specific to the Qaderiyya way and then entered the arrangement.
In another part of this research meeting, Ahmad Sadri said in a speech: “The most important achievement of such festivals is the conversations that take place in it and the question is raised, and this makes us think about something, and this thought will create dialogues between us that in The critique section is used.
This regional music researcher emphasized: We have two important issues in the field of originality. The first topic is the discussion of time and the second topic is place. In a world dominated by the IT system, the two dimensions of space and time are challenged.
Fouad Tawhidi (Iranian music researcher) also said in another part of the meeting: In Iranian music, poetry is not a very influential factor; Unlike classical music, which is based on poetry. That is why people in other countries associate with regional music, but it is difficult for them to form this connection with classical music.
In another part of his speech, Tawhidi said: “In my opinion, ‘custom’ is an intermediate word between tradition and originality, which is itself a factor of change.” Custom is in fact the product of internal and external factors.
Navid Vaziri, Alireza Mirkhosravi and Ariaberzan Ghaybi (students of ethnomusicology at Tehran University of the Arts) also attended the meeting and expressed their views on the main issue.
