Resumption of dialogue between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan

According to the report of Fars News Agency, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in today’s cabinet meeting that the meeting of foreign ministers of this country and the Republic of Azerbaijan will be held in Washington next week.

Earlier, Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesman of the US State Department, said that the US is eager to host the next round of talks between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to “Armen Press” report, Pashinyan added: “Armenia has also proposed to (the Republic of) Azerbaijan to hold a meeting of the Border Delimitation Commission and there is an agreement in principle to hold it.”

Earlier, Mehr Grigorian, the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, said that the Republic of Azerbaijan has agreed to hold a meeting to determine the border limits, which is one of the most controversial issues between the two neighboring countries.

Pashinyan also said that “Armenia is ready to remove the blockage of transportation and economic routes under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the parties and the principle of reciprocity, as soon as possible.”

Despite holding negotiations at different levels between the two countries in the past weeks, which had been stopped for some time, the border tension between them continues and Yerevan said that Baku continues to besiege the Armenian part of Karabagh and block the important Lachin route.

The Prime Minister of Armenia emphasized in his statement today about the relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan: Our position is the same. All efforts should be made to sign a peace treaty and normalize relations.

This round of negotiations is going to be held in the United States, while the negotiations at the level of foreign ministers hosted by Washington were fruitless.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday that the West has no real intention to promote peace between the two republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Lavrov said after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states: “Unfortunately, what the United States and the European Union are doing now indicates a slight desire to help reach an agreement, but their plans (the West) to obtain base in the region and bypassing Russia’s legitimate interests and establishing itself as a force that plays a decisive role here.

Recently, in a speech at “Slavonia” University of Tajikistan, he said that Western countries are trying to penetrate the Central Asian region militarily.
